I hate pop music. But the other night, something strange happened.
I was hanging out in my living room with some friends on their laptops (you know, nothing unusual.) and someone played the new-ish Britney Spears single, "3". I started laughing when the song started up; it was comical like many of the other pop songs on the radio - autotune, some generic synth, etc. I laughed. Hard. Someone mentioned that it was Britney so I laughed harder and I dismissed it as a typical radio jam and moved on.
Flash-forward 2 days, and I'm finding myself singing "3" in my head. Yes, it's the stupidest song ever about the stupidest subject ever (look it up on your own) with the WORST lyrics ever ("1,2,3, Peter, Paul, and Mar-y" and I believe there is also a reference to Twister. UM?) but WOW, it is a CATCHY song. If I were in a club and this song came on, I might have to dance. And I can't dance. So there.
Britney, my dear, in general I think you need to retire and be a good mom slash start eating something other than sugar and Starbucks, BUT KUDOS for "3". You made me question my hatred for Top 40 radio for a mere 5 seconds (ok, fine, so I listened to "3" like 10 times in a row so it's more like 20 minutes.) and enjoy a guilty-pleasure dance jam.
Maybe it's the clapping sounds. Shrug.
Leave all your predisposed thoughts about Britney and Top 40 when you press play, and just pretend you're at some too-loud club somewhere, watching Britney superfans go nuts. COME ON, IT'S CATCHY. Old Britney would want you to.
