BookBook Review: Cat Owner's Home Veterinary Handbook by Delbert G. Giffin , James and
Lisa Carlson

Cat Owner's Home Veterinary Handbook by Delbert G. Giffin,
James and Lisa Carlson is an excellent resource for cat owners
and enthusiasts. The book has just about every helpful tip needed
to maintain a cat well into its life expectancy and beyond.

The authors provide life saving tips on artificial respiration,
heart massages and obstetrical emergencies. The required
vaccines are listed for such things as rabies. Important
guidance is given for treating feline pneumonia by keeping
the animal in a warm environment with a humidifier and
antibiotics.

The authors have a huge section on animal grooming and
bathing equipment. Cats should be brushed frequently.
Claws should be trimmed professionally and ears should be
plugged to keep water out. Cats may be bathed, wiped down
and dried with a hair dryer.

A strength of the presentation is that the authors provide
very extensive guidance on how to handle parasites,
fungi, itchy skin and other difficult health issues.

The book has extensive illustrations which teach pet
owners what to look for in skin conditions like fleas, mites,
chiggers, ticks, lice and maggots. Classic skin infections
are discussed like impetigo, folliculitis, acne and stud tail.

Cat Owner's Home Veterinary Handbook by Delbert G. Giffin,
James and Lisa Carlson is an excellent reference book which
is easy to read, cheap and effective for use by pet owners
everywhere. The book is well illustrated and loaded with
excellent advice for pet enthusiasts everywhere.
