Book Review: A Treasury of Poems: A Collection of the World's Most Famous and Familiar Verse Compiled by Sarah Anne Stuart

A Treasury of Poems: A Collection of the World's Most Famous and Familiar Verse
compiled by Sarah Anne Stuart is a compendium of 440 poems by the greats; such as, Thoreau,
Longfellow, Whitman, Frost and Yates. These works cover just about every human attribute
like aging, brotherhood, celebration, courage, faith, friendship and love.
Stuart's compilation covers some of the most famous writers and poets over many
centuries. For instance, Tom Campion captures the concept of timeless aesthetics
in Beauty Is Not Bound. Alfred Lord Tennyson captures pure fun in Celebration. The universal
concept of voracity is captured in Truth by Ben Jonson. Shakespeare captures great visions
in Our Revels Now Are Ended. The idea of genuine goodness is preserved in Virtue
by George Herbert. Simple reflection is captured in Who Hath a Book by Wilbur D. Nesbit.
Love and compassion are illustrated in Rime of the Ancient Mariner by Samuel Taylor Coleridge.
Destiny and consequences are referred to in The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost.
A portrait of humankind is set forth in Gunga Din by Rudyard Kipling. Finally, the
reality of life on earth is covered in On His Blindness by John Milton.
The style of writing is belles lettres or light literature which is aimed at a universal
audience consisting of literature buffs, students, teachers, librarians, artisans and
the general public.
The works of more than 200 well-known poets from around the world are set forth in over
700 pages. This is a great resource for college students taking English literature for
standard liberal arts programs. The subject, author, and title index are all provided to make
finding poems very easy.
A Treasury of Poems: A Collection of the World's Most Famous and Familiar Verse compiled
by Sarah Anne Stuart is a top reference book on some of the most outstanding poetry and
global literature over many centuries. The author covers just about every human emotion
