I recently did an interview with this author and as part the research for our chat, I read the first chapter of the book. I really liked the flow of the suspense thriller and the way he set it up. I was looking forward to reading the rest of the novel. He writes it in the first person with the majority of the story as thoughts in his head. This can make for interesting reading, however when he continues to describe mundane items that really didn't make the story flow, I found myself just scanning the story.
That's not the way I like to read stories; I want to hang on to every word - especially if it's a thriller. Although there were parts of the novel that keep me turning the page in interest, it wasn't consistent. One of the other things that bugged me is when he went off for a paragraph or two into someone else's thinking. This made the book a bit choppy.
I think the writer has a lot of potential, but for now as his title says it's still a work in progress.
