I am always trying to build the ultimate home theater setup -- and part of that process involves accessing all systems, typically through a remote control system. As systems get more advanced, so do the tools. I recently added a PC to my home theater setup to allow me to stream music, videos, and internet to my main screen. I keep all components in a closet in another room, so controlling the PC can be a hassle as the distance is too far for typical wireless keyboard/mouse combos, and there is no "line of sight" for an IR remote.
And then there was AirMote...
AirMote works over your existing WiFi network to allow access to control your PC. It comes with several built-in templates optimized for different applications. Essentially, you turn your iPhone or iPod Touch into a touchscreen remote.
The remote works perfectly as advertised. You can even add and customize screen layouts for your different applications however they best suit your needs. Unforunately, AirMote alone isn't enough to accomplish what I'd like as I need to use it in conjunction with other iPhone apps to get full control (such as VNC and Snatch).
Additionally, AirMote does not have a way to send out IR commands, so since my audio receiver needs an IR signal to change volume, I still end up juggling another remote. However, the ability to customize the screens for each application (such as iTunes, Boxee, XBMC, etc) really makes this a must have app for the Home Theater geek like myself.
