AKIRA first opened in 2002 as a single women's clothing store in trendy Wicker Park/Bucktown after the young, energetic, fashion-loving Erikka Wang convinced her friends Jon Cotay and Eric Hsueh that they could bring more style to Chicago. Over the last six years, AKIRA has expanded to six stores and an e-tail website. AKIRA now offers a full line of Women's and Men's Clothing, Footwear, and Accessories.
AKIRA style is about the best trends and the hottest items for the season. Up until now, fashion has primarily focused on New York, Los Angeles, Paris, London, and Milan. AKIRA is determined to change this mindset with original thinking and a strong emphasis on Chicago. They represent a broad range of designers, from well-known fashion labels to new and interesting labels that might become the next big thing, with all pieces expertly selected by the owners and buyers with top-tier fashion backgrounds. The AKIRA private label, designed in Europe and Brazil, is the perfect way to get a fashion forward look without paying a designer price.
Known just as much for our exciting fashion shows and jam-packed parties as they are for their huge denim offering, dead-on trend selections, and expert service, AKIRA is the weekly destination for men and women who like to go out and look good. AKIRA is now also an online e-tailer.
AKIRA is fanatical about ensuring that customers are styled by experts who eat, sleep, and breathe
