A Neophyte's Perspective

I'm a "late adopter" when it comes to most technology. I don't own an iPhone or a Bluetooth, I've sent precisely one text message in my life, and I've never owned another netbook or similar product. So take that into account.

I was certainly ready to have some kind of portable computer, however, so I eagerly dove into the installation of this one... and broke into a sweat just trying to get it started. The user guide is seriously lacking. The computer didn't want to start. I finally got it working-- but stumbled just about every step along the way learning how to use it.

The touch screen is frustrating because it's not very precise or reactive, and I found the lack of a keyboard a big loss. It's awkward trying to figure out how to adjust to the on-screen keyboard (and you need to use the stylus to type-- fingers are just too big to type properly).

The size is handy; big enough to get a good view of web pages, but small enough to be very portable. I got this device just before I went for a major surgery, and have been using it as I recover in bed and on the couch-- it fits that purpose well.

This feels like a well-made unit, but it feels like it was released too soon. I'm not sure what the niche is for it yet. It seems too expensive for its limitations; there's no way one could use this as a primary computer or even like a frequently-used laptop. It's too slow and cumbersome to type on. But for occasional use and travel, this little device surely does come in handy.

I really like the Archos tablet, small and not to too heavy, it feels nice to hold while it really looks and functions like a mini computer, you can pretty much do anything you think of on it, within limits of course but still, it gives one great freedom.     Typing is really easy; it takes a bit to figure out how to use the screen key board and set up is fairly simple. I find speed to be sufficient on this, internet loads up without problems, programs run nice, only down side …

Before giving my thoughts on the Archos 9 PC Tablet, I'm going to run through the notes I made on the initial start up.    I had read one review before receiving this and the most important part seemed to be making a back up/restore point so that's what I did. The registration, system load and system back up took approximately 1 hour for me. It was a little time consuming, but once I was beyond that I connected to the internet from our wireless home connection and proceeded to …
