The temperamental pen

BIC pretty much has left a "mark" (pun intended) in the writing utensil market. If it isn't razors then it is pens/pencils. This pen is a sleek gel pen with black ink. I am not sure what the real selling pitch of this pen is supposed to be. However, I have been using this pen at work for the past two weeks. The pen is very comfortable and ergonomically correct. I have used many pens that are awkward and vex the hand after a bit of use. I am pleased to say this pen is very comfortable to use.

In contrast, the ink is a bit erratic, since it is gel it at times dries quickly and other times takes a bit longer to dry. This can result in smudges on the paper, one's hands and in a few occasions' clothes. With regards to the clothes, I was writing and the cuff of my shirt touched the paper before the ink dried and a nice stain on my sleeve. Lovely. The ink will also bleed and at times doesn't write smoothly, yet it times it promotes beautiful penmanship. This boggles my mind.

I wouldn't go as far to say this pen is useless or that I won't continue to use it, I will, at least until the ink runs out. I cannot say I will be buying refills for this pen. I have never been a fan of gel pens just because they can be sloppy. This new pen by BIC hasn't worked all the quirks out, so I my view of gel pens haven't changed too much, but the ergonomics of this pen are great. I suppose for the price for two pens it isn't terrible, but it wouldn't be my first choice.

This feels solid in the hand, easy to move, nice feel with the rubber grip. It's handsome, weighs enough not to feel flimsy, and balances well, But it glides so smoothly you may find it goes too fast over the page, with not enough traction. For a gel pen, it seems like a rollerball, for comparison.

As apparently has happened to at least a couple of other folks here, my pens don't work at all well and have turned out to be very dissappointing. The pens had some sort of goop on the tip of each when opened which was removed with some work.     I finally got each one to write, but in both cases, the pens skip at times, drag as if something is between the pen and the paper, and don't write well or even poorly. I don't know if my set is defective or not. I just know they don't …
