On October 15, 2009, six year old Falcon Heene was reported to be missing from his family home in Fort Collins, CO, by his science enthusiast parents, Richard and Mayumi Heene.  He was believed to have set adrift in a 20 by 5 feet helium balloon that his family had been building.  There were fears that he had fallen out of the balloon due to an unlocked door, and when the balloon finally did make a soft landing, the boy was not inside.  It was discovered a few hours later that the boy never actually set afloat on the helium balloon, but was hiding in a box in the family's attic during the ordeal.

On October 17, authorities determined that this was a hoax orchestrated by the parents in an attempt to better market themselves for a reality television show.  Authorities are currently pressing charges.
