If you're not huge of thick liquid foundation, TRY THIS!

So I remember one time in college my friend and I got sucked into doing one of those makeovers at the Mac counter... so they told us they would do our makeup and we had to buy $50 worth of stuff. So we were hesitant because.. $50 is a lot..... of course, we end up buying freaking $150 worth of Mac make up. WHO DOES THAT?! Anyways, the point of the story was, I bought the foundation, eyeliner, brushes and everything else (almost) that they used on me that day.  Only to find out that I hated it and haven't used it since... what a waste of about $80 of it!!

I'm not a huge fan of wearing face makeup.. not to say that I don't need it.. but I just don't like the way it cakes on and feels like I'm wearing an extra face... and then I found bare minerals!! (Also as a side note, I definitely feel like my skin is a LOT worse here ... I don't know if it's because it's winter or what ... but I think the constant fog in London really made my skin a lot better!!)

So the make up... it's really light (it's a mineral foundation) and doesn't feel like I'm wearing tons of stuff. And a little actually goes a long way.  I bought the starter kit at Sephora for $60, and the retail is actually I think $170? It comes with:
  • Mineral foundation
  • Warmth (the blush)
  • Mineral Veil (the finisher)
  • Kabuki brush - for medium to full application. I usually use this for the foundation.
  • Concealer Brush - great to cover small blemish spots that need more attention/makeup
  • Flawless Brush - light brushover, I use this more for the blush.
The make up is a great POWDER foundation/blush/finishe, not liquid so it feels a lot lighter on your face!  The sizes of the makeup in the starter kit is smaller than the ones you would normally buy in the store, none the less, the foundation lasted me about a year, and the blush and the mineral veil lasted more about 2.  The blush and mineral veil would have probably lasted longer had I not dropped it and lost a bunch of it in the sink haha.

The application of this is a little tricky...in the beginning I'd pour some of the make up in the lid, then use the brush to apply to my face - just like the video tells you to (hahaha, yes, there is a DVD that comes with this starter kit!). Now, I shake up the make up before opening it, open it up and there's always make up stuck to the lid. Works great for me! Then I use the Kabuki or flawless brush, dip into the makeup and glaze all over my face. Then, the concealer brush comes in real handy to "clean up" all the makeup in the corner the lid... covers up the specific blemishes you need to hide!

If you don't like regular make up because you think it's too thick and just don't like the feel of it on your face, try this out! It's a great deal at Sephora for $60 and I think the bare essentuals boutique stores also have this starter kit deal.  If you're still skeptical to shell out $60 though (which is totally understandable), get a sample and have them put the make up on you at the store.

The only issue I've had with this is that sometimes in pictures my face looks shiny (a little more than "glow"... I feel like it's actually shiny!) when I"m wearing this makeup. I'm not sure what the reason is... it might be because I don't use a finisher anymore.. just the foundation... but other than that, I absolutely love this make up and I'll have to remind myself to have enough before I leave the country again.  I don't wanna be stranded and makeup less again!

Marvelous! I'll have to go check this out. Like you, I don't like the "cakey" feeling & shiny look either. Thanks for the great review!

I didn't buy Bare Escentuals because I watched an infommercial.   I didn't buy Bare Escentuals because I was accosted at Sephora or any other makeup counter.   I bought Bare Escentuals because in one week I noticed the great complexions of two different friends and when I commented on it, they both boasted that they owed it to Bare Escentuals. I had noticed a positive difference in their faces, and I figured it wasn't a conspiracy. I tried …

Bare Escentuals Mineral Foundation
Bare Escentuals is the infamous "infomercial" mineral makeup line that catapulted the cosmetics industry into a natural makeup frenzy. These days, Bare Escentuals is everywhere...infomercials, HSN, Sephora, and it's own stores...and just about every cosmetics company has created a knock-off mineral makeup line to compete with the overwhelming popularity of this product.    My opinion of Bare Escentuals is that I like it....but I don't LOVE it. First off, it's expensive. Each …
