Bare Escentuals is the infamous "infomercial" mineral makeup line that catapulted the cosmetics industry into a natural makeup frenzy. These days, Bare Escentuals is everywhere...infomercials, HSN, Sephora, and it's own stores...and just about every cosmetics company has created a knock-off mineral makeup line to compete with the overwhelming popularity of this product.

My opinion of Bare Escentuals is that I like it....but I don't LOVE it. First off, it's expensive. Each container of powder is roughly $25 and they don't last long...maybe two and a half weeks. Also, you need three pots of powder to acheive the desired result (flawless skin). The foundation, the concealer and the mineral veil.  So now you're talking $75 for all 3 powders that last you under a month each.

Secondly, the coverage is so light weight that you have to layer it on...which is good and bad. The Good:  The makeup itself goes on light, very easily and silky in texture...so you don't get that cakey or super matte look but for the areas that you want a bit more coverage, you really have to heavy up on the application. The Bad: this leaves you needing more of the product and ultimately spending more money. Also, I feel as though the product wears off faster because of its light weight nature. The mineral veil is supposed to provide the "staying power" for the powder foundation by locking it on your face (don't ask me how).  I really don't think it works. When I use Bare Escentuals foundation, I have to touch up my makeup often thus leading me to conclude that the mineral veil doesn't do anything.

Lastly, competition killed my adoration. When BE first came out, it was groundbreaking.  It severed my relationship with liquid foundations and sticky concealers...and I am forever thankful for that! However, now that so many cosmetic companies are creating competing lines of mineral makeup..the value of Bare Escentuals has gone down because there are better products out there...that are less expensive.

I didn't buy Bare Escentuals because I watched an infommercial.   I didn't buy Bare Escentuals because I was accosted at Sephora or any other makeup counter.   I bought Bare Escentuals because in one week I noticed the great complexions of two different friends and when I commented on it, they both boasted that they owed it to Bare Escentuals. I had noticed a positive difference in their faces, and I figured it wasn't a conspiracy. I tried …

So I remember one time in college my friend and I got sucked into doing one of those makeovers at the Mac counter... so they told us they would do our makeup and we had to buy $50 worth of stuff. So we were hesitant because.. $50 is a lot..... of course, we end up buying freaking $150 worth of Mac make up. WHO DOES THAT?! Anyways, the point of the story was, I bought the foundation, eyeliner, brushes and everything else (almost) that they used on me that day.  Only to find out that I hated …
