Beauty and the Beat is the debut release from The Go Gos. The band started out as a pop-punk band with original members Jane Wiedlin and Belinda Carlisle. After touring for a few years and with three new members (Gina Schock, Kathy Valentine and Charlotte Caffey) along with a more radio friendly sound the band signed with IRS Records and recorded studio tracks for their debut album. I've heard the live versions and they're a lot faster and more rougher edge then the glossy studio ones. But the poppy and cheery sounds of the Go Gos will get you motivated and motoring.
Our Lips are Sealed was a song that Jane Wiedlin co-wrote with former Specials front man Terry Hall. We Got the Beat was written by Charlotte Caffey and these two tracks not only defined the group's sound but they helped promote the album making it one of the biggest selling debut albums in music history. Beauty and The Beat was also popularized by two music videos and an appearance in Urgh, A Music War. If you're into cheery pop music or a fan of 80's New Wave then you'll want to check out Beauty and the Beat.
