When I first realized that alcohol is a great gift and asked a coworker where the best place to get alcohol was, she told me that I can get it at any grocery store, but that Beverages and More (BevMo!) would probably be the most fun. So far, she's been right—especially for wine.
The experiences I've had at BevMo can be summed up with the expression "kid in a candy store". You walk in and find a store that's pretty well organized but with so many selections in front of you how do you REALLY know what to buy? Well, there are 2 tools that BevMo offers that I recommend: First, ask any of the knowledgeable employees; and second, go to a few wine tasting events that they host.
I've been to a couple different BevMo stores and every time I go, the staff has been friendly and they share a high appreciation for wine. They know what tastes best for what price and for which occasion; they'll even recommend a good cheese to enjoy it with.
I haven't been to a wine tasting yet, but they post and distribute the schedules in their stores and on the website. Each tasting day has its own theme (examples: Cabernet, critically-acclaimed, sparkling, chardonnay, etc). So when you go to have a taste, you can plan for a day that you want to learn most about.
Aside from using these tools, I enjoy the fact that the prices have a uniquely wide range that you can't find in a typical grocery store. That means I can fit any wine-o into my BevMo Christmas shopping list and spend a couple bucks or a few hundred dollars.
I'm a total nerd. I like comic books, science fiction books and movies, and I like LOST. I also used to be a huge World of Warcraft junkie but I don't have a whole lot of time for that. The X-Men are … more
