Growing up reading Calvin and Hobbes cartoons just instills a sense of adventure, a sense of mirth and a whimsical type of humor in a readers soul. I love every Calvin and Hobbes comic that I have ever read and the fact that there is a compilation of this many comic strips all in one book is simply a joy to me.
The series was all about action. A young boys imagination and the best friend that was always there to share it with him. A child like spirit rises up in me as i retreat into the storyboard strips that tell so much in such a short space. Hobbes is such a splendid accompanyment to Calvin's adventurousness. Ever cool ever playful and ever friendly. Laughter of course being the best medicine can also have other health benefits. Teaching us the value of not taking ourselves too seriously and knowing that there are others in the world who get a fantastic thrill from sharing in the same simple joys as we do ourselves.
Dear Bill Watterson I say cheers to you sir! Cheers and longevity for all the laughs and occasional tears you have brought us along the way. What else can I say besides that the fun and giddiness found in this comic strip must be shared with all the world!
