Don't Buy Canon Lenses Unless You're a High Level Pro

Ah, there. I said it.

I have to say that I'm sure this lens takes dandy photos, but don't spend the money on a name brand lens unless you're at the point in your photography that component quality is going to matter.

For 90% of the people who will probably read this, there are two very good alternatives to purchasing name brand lenses. Sigma and Tamron. All my camera bodies are Canon, but all my lenses are Tamron. They are great lenses and can save you some serious cash at the end of the day.

I was burned a few years back with a 70-300 Quantarary. Won't touch those lenses ever again. II primarily use Canon lenses for my dSLR's and have recently purchased a Tokina Ultra Wide lens. I took me years to purchase a lens off brand since the Quantaray disaster. Certainly, Sigma, Tokina, and Tamrom have good quality lenses for the price, there is still one lens from Canon I'd recommend for purchase. The Canon 50mm f1/8 is a wonder! You can purchase it for around $80 and it will quickly become your most used lens. Simply spectacular!
