Cats are my favorite types of pets since they give you enough animal companionship and entertainment value without having to do a lot of work for them.  With the three cats I have, one of them always hangs around me whenever I'm doing work on the computer or engaging in creative endeavors, and she always sleeps by me at night.  The other two are good pets, since one of them is always nice and the other is a hoot to have since she's a bit crazy.

The only drawbacks to having cats is that unless if you're willing to train them to use the toilet (it's been done before) or if they spend a lot of time outdoors, you have to live with them peeing and pooping in a litter box.  While not true for all cats, at least mine tend to be gluttons when they eat and have a tendency to vomit from this, which can be a pain in the ass from time to time.  Though the good things cats provide far outweight the bad in my opinion.
