Ditch the Paper Streamers: Great "Green" Party Ideas!

  • Feb 27, 2009

A mother and daughter pair, Lynn and Corey Colwell have teamed up and written Celebrate Green! This photo rich book serves as both inspiration and a DIY guide to creating some fabulous events with a more earth-friendly approach. This pair decided to combine their passion for celebrations and entertaining with their care and love for the Earth they call home. This book was created not to seek fame and fortune (though they admit they wouldn't mind visiting Oprah's couch), but instead to set out to make a difference. Lynn and Corey show in this book that just by changing holiday traditions and party planning in small ways, you can make a huge positive environmental impact.
With ideas for every occasion from Halloween to Hanukkah (and many more in between), this book has something for everyone. They provide party tips, gift suggestions, and decor ideas that are all Eco-friendly. They even have a Celebrate Green Blog where they share tips and ideas you can access daily- fabulous! I think Mother Nature would be proud of this mother daughter pair.

What really stands out to me is that this book is all about celebrating in a more Eco-conscious way. It all began with ideas for a more green Halloween and has grown from there. Green Halloween (http://www.greenhalloween.org/) can be seen as a movement withing the "Green" movement. I enjoy how this book tackles waste issues surrounding holidays, entertaining, and parties specifically and provides great alternative ideas. Oh- and it is practical, no cooking your own paper to make cards or anything extreme like that :).

This books sounds great! I know a couple of people who wanted to make their weddings "green", so I will direct them to this book and their blog for ideas. Thanks for the review! :)
