To kwa or not to kwa?

Every (well, almost) Chinese will wear this traditional wedding costume on their wedding days for the tea ceremony (not to be confused with the Japanese tea ceremony). The Chinese tea ceremony is held on Chinese wedding days as a thank you to parents for their upbringing before the younger generation moved out of their homes to begin their new lives after the wedding celebration.

Many Chinese couples took wedding pictures in studios and will undoubtedly choose a Chinese Kwa as part of the entire ensemble. Brides are usually most beautiful with the red and colorful decor on the Kwa and photos will turn out cheerful and colorful. Chinese Kwa are usually in red as the color red means auspicious among the Chinese. Don't confuse it with Bakkwa which is barbequed pork(!) sold commonly as gifts or Chinese new year goodies in Singapore, Malaysia and China. Well, other than being auspicious, the two has nothing in common ;-)

Chinese (Qun) Kwa is not Cheongsam or Qipao. It may be similar in style but is usually flair while Cheongsam is tight fitting. I'm putting so much weight these days that the Cheongsam is entirely out! But the kwa, well, who knows ;-) May be one day soon!

My youngest sis looked beautiful with the Chinese Kwa on her wedding. I'll have to look for a digital copy of that photo and have it posted here :-)

I've seen these before, but didn't realize that they were strictly wedding attire! They're gorgeous, but I'm not sure I'd really want to wear one as part of my wedding attire when the day comes, though I'm betting that my mother would probably want me to. ...Maybe I can talk her into letting me wear a qipao instead :P

Cantonese people love this but other dialect groups may also wear Qipao or Hanfu. It depends on the individuals, hey, if you still can get yourself into a Qipao, why not? ;-)
