I recently received a pair of Gunmetal Grey Civic Duty Men's Exhilaration sneakers as a gift.  While I whole-heartedly support the idea behind these shoes, which is to donate profits to worthy causes, remain eco-friendly throughout the production of the shoe, and to reduce costs for consumers, I just do not like the Exhilaration shoes.

For starters, they aren't that attractive.  They are Gunmetal Grey with a white rubber sole.  On the heal is an argyle print that looks entirely out of place.  Also, the Tyvek used to create the uppers is intentionally crushed to give a worn-in look to the shoe.  What it does for me, however, is make it look like I'm wearing shoes made out of silvery crepe paper.

Secondly, these shoes don't conform to my foot very well.  When I walk, there is a rushing "fwap" sound that announces my entrance, constant location, and eventual embarassed exit from everywhere I visit in these shoes.

Perhaps with a little more wear and tear, I'll come to like these shoes better.  Until then, I'll applaud Civic Duty for their intentions but will wait for a better shoe from them in the future.
