A catchy phrase to use as bait!

When I first started the Eco-Babyz community on Lunch, I was perplexed by what to write as my community tagline. To inspire you and spare you brainstorming from scratch, I'll share some of the ways you can make this phrase sum up everything your community is about!

First, let's clarify why the tagline is there in the first place and why it is very important. When anyone browses through Communities on Lunch, you want yours to stand out. So a photo or logo is obviously essential, but a tagline will give a short preview of what one can expect when they visit that community. It can be basic and descriptive like a dictionary definition, or it can be catchy or funny, with a personality of it's own. You'll just have to figure out what works best for you. 

Here are some successful taglines from various Lunch communities that make me snicker, make me want to see more and become a member:

iApps: "Well, these apps aren't going to review themselves"

Culture of Cute: "Dedicated to all things fashionable"

Bakers and Pastry Lovers: "Have you Cake and Eat it Too"

Green Living: "Helping the Planet one Review at a Time"

Pizza Therapy: "Pizza on Earth, Good Will to All"

If the name of your community is descriptive as is, like in the case of Bakers and Pastry Lovers, your tagline can really be just a fun, catchy phrase. If on the other hand, the name leaves room for interpretation, it's good to focus the tagline to serve as a definition. Plus if you already have a blog, a company, or you are starting a community for a specific event - you probably already have a tagline. You might need to make it more concise and refined, but at least you have a start!

Another thought, I think it is best to avoid the word Community in your tagline. Everyone already knows it is a community, no matter how they got there. When they are on the community homepage it does say Communities on Lunch at the top anyway. I feel like it is a waste of precious real estate to say it one more time. Instead, think of some unique key words relating to your community that will set it apart from others and entice people to join! In the case of Eco-Babyz the word is 'crunchy', "A crunchy place for all things Green Parenting". While it might not be unique in the world of green mommy blogs, it does have a niche of its own among the many Lunch communities. It is sure to jump out exactly at those that will be interested in the content presented in Eco-Babyz!
