When you’re dealing with the facts surrounding the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, let’s face it: there’s an awful lot of ground to cover. For starters, any investigation into what truly happened on that fateful day in November, 1963 is now inevitably tainted by fading memories. Not only that but also any documentarian legitimately looking further into the matter is now tasked with filtering through volumes and volumes of deliberately misleading evidence and/or testimony – a veritable mountain of misinformation, much of which was generated by sitting politicians of the time and more who followed thereafter.
Yes, I can say that with tremendous legitimacy because – for those of you who don’t know it – the last ‘official’ word coming from the U.S. government (assuming it isn’t additional deliberate misinformation) is that the death of JFK came as the result of a conspiracy. At least, that was the official determination as of 1979 when science gave investigators the chance to review audio of gunshots in greater clarity, and they realized that there were multiple shooters, not one, who perpetrated this dark deed.
(NOTE: The following review will contain minor spoilers necessary solely for the discussion of plot and characters. If you’re the kind of reader who prefers a review entirely spoiler-free, then I’d encourage you to skip down to the last three paragraphs for my final assessment. If, however, you’re accepting of a few modest hints at ‘things to come,’ then read on …)
Maybe I’m a bit jaded as a reviewer for CONFESSIONS FROM THE GRASSY KNOLL: THE SHOCKING TRUTH because I’ve always believed the assassination could only have been accomplished in the manner it was if and only if there were multiple participants planning and coordinating so many events before, during, and after the assassination in order for it all to have been pulled off so seamlessly. In fact, one could make the case that it’s taken years for enough facts to come to life – to be examined and re-examined as we make technological advancements that help us further define specifics – in order for me to have the ‘learned’ opinion I do. I could be wrong in this assessment, but, at this point, it would appear my opinion is that shared by a majority of people who’ve looked into the event.
That said, CONFESSIONS is a fairly impressive undertaking. Clearly, this documentary tries to cover a significant amount of material; given the fact that it’s only two hours long, I tend to think that there’s still an awful lot out there that couldn’t make the final edit. As a viewer, I’m perfectly okay with that because what is here is shocking enough that I suspect it’ll make a believer out of most who view it.
Still, that’s a fairly treacherous position to begin with. Aren’t the only people liable to pick this release up already convinced that the President died as a result of not just a conspiracy but a V-A-S-T conspiracy that stretched deeply into the highest towers of political influence? If that’s the case, then that’s really the crime, and I maintain it’s a shame that more people – especially those who still insist Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone – won’t examine just how many unanswered questions remain from the circumstances of that faithful day.
If you’re a conspiracy nut (like I am, and I’m perfectly comfortable admitting), then CONFESSIONS is right up your alley. Buy it or rent it; you’re likely to discover a modest amount of new information you didn’t know before. Talk it up amongst your friends, and maybe – just maybe – you’ll convert them to members of the chorus instead of their remaining on the outskirts of reality.
While the DVD packaging materials don’t specify these facts definitively, CONFESSIONS FROM THE GRASSY KNOLL: THE SHOCKING TRUTH appears to be a production of JFKMurderSolved.com. DVD distribution is being handled by MVD Visual. As for the technical specifications, the documentary looks and sounds mostly solid – there’s some acceptable low quality footage that necessarily goes hand-in-hand when reviewing audio and video footage from an era so long ago. There are no special feature to speak of.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. Odds are if you’re here and reading about this product, then the subject matter already interests you. At this juncture, all you’re needing to know is whether or not I – as a critic – believe it worth your couple of bucks. I think it is. There’s enough material on here that reviews the various conspiracies from several angles that CONFESSIONS is a terrific overview. Additionally, I suspect there are a few facts – especially those associated to the confession of James Files – that might strike you as all-new. Spend the money – and the time – on the grassy knoll, and you’ll be rewarded.
In the interests of fairness, I’m pleased to disclose that the fine folks at MVD Visual (A Division of MVD Entertainment Group) provided me with a DVD copy of CONFESSIONS FROM THE GRASSY KNOLL: THE SHOCKING TRUTH by request for the expressed purpose of completing this review.
