Crisis Of Faith is a book that has two very different plot lines. The first plot line involves a group of academic people trying to remove all examples of slavery, sex and violence in the Bible. The second plot line involves a scientist who tries to unleash a pesticide into the food supply that will sterilize all women. These two plot lines are interesting but so unrelated. When Eliza Wood ties these two plot lines together, the outcome is unbelievable and implausible. I wish these plot lines were connected just a little tighter in the book. I cannot give this book a perfect rating because of this. This book makes me want to do my own research in the Bible to find examples of slavery, sex and violence. Eliza Wood introduces me to a new word called theodicy. Theodicy is the concept of why God allows evil in the world. This is something that I have wondered about for many years. I am sure that I will discover the answer to this question through my research. Another note worthy aspect in this book is the information that Eliza Wood provides in the appendix. She provides a history of slavery. I learned that the first African slaves arrived in North America in 1585 and settled in St Augustine, Florida. I also learned about the prevalence of women clergy in countries like South Africa, New Zealand and Pakistan. There is also a list of different versions of the Bible. I am surprised to discover that there is a Farsi Ebook Bible and an Icelandic version of the Bible. I have never seen these languages in written form. I am curious to see what they look like. Eliza Wood raises my curiosity about religion so much with the information she provides in the book and appendix. I love when a book motivates me to learn something new.

(Sarcasm) Yes, yes, and yes: I think everyone knows that religion is what’s wrong with our civilization.  Think of how much better off if we didn’t have religion!  Think of how much further along we’d be!  Think of the dramatic leaps and bounds we would’ve made if we hadn’t shackled entire generations of peoples with morals, commandments, and inspirations for right-minded living!  Think of how much more productive and responsive the various governments …
