Very slick way to expand your display capabilities

This is a very slick device. Measuring about 4 x 3 x 1 inches and weighing 5 ounces, this gadget plugs into a USB port on one side and into a VGA or DVI LCD monitor or Big Screen TV on the other. (You can also use an optional DVI to HDMI connector as well.) Resolution to 2048x1152 or 1900x1200 32 bit True Color is supported as is 1080p. No external power source is required, just a USB port that supplies 5v out, which nearly all recent computers provide. Multiple BVU195s (up to six) can be used.

What can you do with the BVU195? You can extend your desktop across multiple monitors, which can be extremely helpful with programs like Photoshop that spawn menus and sub-menus. You can use it in mirror mode so your laptop screen is reporduced on a larger monitor. Thisd will come in handy for road warriors toting netbooks with small screens who have access to a larger TV in their motel room. Also good for presentations without the need to carry a projector.

There is some slowdown in response, but it shouldn't be a problem in most circumstances.

A couple of caveats about playing back media: your options are limited. Check the manual and the Diamond website for particulars.

Installation could not be easier. Install the drivers. Plug in the device. You're done. For netbooks, you can download the drivers from the Diamond website, eliminating the need for a CD.

I had no real problems in my testing of the unit with a netbook. I can see using the unit on the road to great advantage. For office or home use, especially with programs like Photoshop, it would be a very handy way to add monitors to s desktop computer or, more importantly, a laptop.

Overall, a very slick device with a high usefulness factor.

Lately some small LCD monitors have been showing up with USB ports on the back. The idea is that they can easily plug them into a laptop or computer as a second (or third) monitor for displaying something to keep an eye on without using up space on the main display. It is a pretty nifty idea, though I would have to really have a specific use in mind to purchase one.    This device lets you add that functionality to a standard monitor. As LCD monitors drop in price, more people …

About this topic

Enhance your PC or Mac desktops video display capabilities in minutes without the complicated process of installing an internal graphics card. You can add up to 6 BVUs per system. Add 1080p output picture resolution. Play videos, DVDs and more on an additional LCD or Big Screen TV. Supports DVI or VGA interfaces providing high quality digital imaging up to 2048x1152 or 1900x1200 32 bit True Color resolution. Note: If your big screen TV or wide screen LCD does not support DVI inputs you can use an optional DVI to HDMI cable or adapter (not included). Until the release of BVU technology it was virtually impossible to add 3 or more displays to your Notebook, MacBook or Netbook. Now with the BVU195 HD Display adapter you can upgrade or enhance your existing video display capabilities for your Notebook, MacBook or Netbook by connecting to your big screen TV with 1080p output picture resolution. A USB graphics solution such as the BVU195 HD Display Adapter uses 80% less power than a discrete solution. Now, with USB graphics technology, notebooks are just as effective and easy to use with multiple displays as dedicated PCs.
