I'd love to hear everyone's stories about the amazing objects dogs find and play with. I thought I'd share a couple of them here that my two have come up with. The inventiveness of dogs always amazes me - and the things they find to play with sometimes have me rolling with laughter.
My dogs go to the local park at least once a day, and often find a treasure that becomes the favored toy of the day. This is particularly true of my black lab who is fulfilled in life just carrying around a treasure she's found.
This morning, she found a piece of plastic tubing that was, at one time, the supporting ring from a soft flying disk. She pranced proudly during our 2 mile walk with this 3 foot long piece of plastic hanging out of her mouth.
Other fabulous finds include:
popped soccer balls - the flatter it is, the better because it makes a great shaking toy
any piece of dirty and frayed rope - these apparently are great because she can chew on them, shake them, play tug with them and, and when she convinces someone to throw it for her, it flies through the air in exciting ways
long sticks are another great favorite - both dogs can tug on it, break it half, try to get it away from each other and they also make nice snacks - accordingly to my border collie mix, anyway
There are a couple of dogs that go to the local park who go crazy when they score an empty plastic bottle. There are a couple of people I know who make it a point bring empties with them simply because it's so much watching these play with them.
This is one the things about dogs I love - they're so good at finding at objects and turning them into sources of fun.

When I brought it out this morning, it got serious attention for hours before I took the girls out for their morning walk. It's … more
I have always loved animals and have been given the gift of being loved back by them. Seven years ago, I adopted an 8-month-old puppy who was starved and mistreated from a local shelter. In learning about … more
