I'm Starting to Like it a Little Bit More

For years I shunned Dunkn Donuts.  I never found anything special about their coffee (so many people rave about it) which is no where as good as Seattle's Best or just about any New York Deli coffee (at least in many of these places I can choose exactly how much milk/half & half I put in my cup).  The donuts made me feel like I was eating sweet Play Doh (I am not a fan of the donut).

However, I have had to go there for members of my family and other times when I am driving and need something, they are the quick fix on the road.  I have since discovered one of their cold drinks (I think it is called a Mocachino.  I can never remember it but I know it when I see it) that comes in vanilla bean that is actually an excellent tasting vanilla shake.  I also noticed that they started offering egg white sandwiches though on the same not so good bagels.  These sandwiches actually taste pretty good despite the fact that the egg what is already made, looking like something that used to come in my daughters Playskool kitchen.

These two items are things that I can get if there are no options and Dunkin Donuts is the only game in town.  Other than that I try to avoid this place at all costs.

Hey Michael! This is an interesting review, as I have been a DD fanatic for as long as I can remember. Strange thing... Over the last few years, I have come to love their coffee less. In fact, most cups I get there nowadays are just plain awful. I prefer brewing my own at home. I never touch the Coolatas (after reading the nutritional facts on these babies!). Coming from a line of donut entrepreneurs (seriously - it's in the family - homemade with love, not manufactured) I can agree with you 100 percent that DD donuts are hideous. ;-)

I think the drink you are talking about is a Vanilla Bean Coolata. I do love Coolatas as well. As for the coffee, compared to other premium coffees that are available these days Dunkin' Donuts coffee does not compare as favorably as it used to. Years ago their coffee really did stand out in the marketplace. And people are extremely loyal to it in the Northeast.

That's it Paul, Coolata. Thanks for jarring my memory. I never cared for their regular coffee though. The people working there never seem to be able to fix it with the correct amounts of milk and half and half that I like.

Where do I start, well how about a word on how I met Dunkin. When we came to the United States and settled in Massachusetts, my relatives who were already living here kept talking about Dunkin Donuts - specifically about the donuts, not the coffee. Then we finally tried the donuts and I guess I was sort of hooked with it being  a novelty for me, I was eleven at the time. Many French Crullers later I got hooked on their coffee - yes, it was Dunkin who induced my coffee addiction which lasted …

Primarily an east coast phenomenon.
Here in Rhode Island Dunkin' Donuts is everywhere!   You will find shops on downtown streets, in strip malls, at interstate exits and even in supermarkets and gas stations.  In fact, at last count there were 124  Dunkin' Donuts locations here in Little Rhody.  The situation is pretty much the same throughout New England and the rest of the Northeast.  Dunkin'  Donuts dominates the market.  The highly regarded North Carolina based …

Dunkin' Coffee makes things happen
As someone who occasionally finds himself needing to coax people into getting up early and being productive, the Dunkin' Box o' Joe has become a standard tool.  Seriously - a big, brightly colored box of reasonably tasty coffee will do wonders for the morale and, subsequently, productivity of your team.        For the uninitiated, the Box o' Joe is essentially a big pot of coffee in a surprisingly mobile to-go box.  It serves 10 10oz cups of coffee and you can …

As a former New Englander, living in California, I often mourn the loss of their Donut shops on the West Coast!  Fortunately, the coffee is now available in our stores, but not having the combination of a lemon filled donut to go along with that coffee is un-American!  We even receive coupons in our Sunday papers for a free Dunkin Donut with the purchase of a cup of coffee.  That is downright cruel and unusual punishment.        I have searched the Web, written …

The Dunkin' phenomenon was one of the more mystifying things about living in Boston. In a city where you're never more than a 15 minute walk from truly excellent coffee, 10 minutes from a quality bagel, or even 5 minutes from a Starbucks, I was never able to understand why people loved it so much. Their food is fair to middling, their coffee is not awful but certainly not good, and there couldn't be less atmosphere. If you're in need of a cheap bucket of joe this is probably the way to go (their …

Yes, I'm giving Dunkin' Donuts a very high ranking (in fact, THE highest). Let me explain: I grew up in San Francisco where, as far as I know, there are no Dunkin' Donuts. On top of that, I went to a hippie high school where I learned to detest corporations. But my family is from Chicago -- a place where people take Dunkin' Donuts very seriously. You'll see Dunkin' Donuts bags Downtown, lovingly carried by women as they cross the street, and you'll see my cousin, Jenny, gulping down the coffee with …

Dunkin Donuts is my favorite coffee chain.  Their coffee is ten times better than Starbucks, and they have great flavored coffee if you're into that.  Coconut is my favorite, though honestly, even the blueberry is good (Blueberry coffee?  Sounds gross, but it works somehow).  Then, they have white hot chocolate.  That's right, WHITE hot chocolate.  It's very sweet, but creamy and delicious.  I always get them in the winter time, they're my favorite.  They …

Wiki

Dunkin' Donuts is the largest coffee and baked goods chain in the world providing customers, with high quality coffee, bagels, donuts and other baked goods since 1950. William (Bill) Rosenberg, founder, opened the first Dunkin' Donuts shop in Quincy, Massachusetts. Dunkin' Donuts licensed the first of many franchises in 1955. In 1946, Rosenberg founded Industrial Luncheon Services, a company that delivered meals and snacks to workers in the Boston area. The success of Industrial Lucheon Services convinced Rosenberg to start the Open Kettle, a doughnut shop in Quincy, Massachusetts. Two years later Open Kettle changed its name to Dunkin' Donuts.

Serving more than 3 million customers per day, Dunkin' Donuts sells 52 varieties of donuts and more than a dozen coffee beverages as well as an array of bagels, breakfast sandwiches and other baked goods. At the end of 2007, there were 7,988 Dunkin' Donuts stores worldwide, including 5,769 franchised restaurants in the U.S. and 2,219 internationally.
