First thing I thought when I received this CD was what do you get when you mix Country and RAP - CRAP? Well after listening to the junior project from Colt Ford my thoughts were proven wrong. He is able to bring a whole new kind of energy to country with is blend of rapping and country stars. The CD features country stars such as Eric Church, Luke Bryan, Craig Morgan, and Tim McGraw in addition to newcomers like Trent Tomlinson and Frankie Ballard. If you like Jason Aldean's "Dirt Road Anthem", many of the songs on this CD have the same feeling with singing & rap portions. When I was listening to the album I found that there was a strong beginning and end, but I did not feel much for the middle. This is where Colt did most of his hardcore rapping. Overall, with the Twitter whirlwind from celebrities tweeting about this album I feel that this album will be accepted in country music and sell a few thousand copies! My stand out tracks are:
"Country Thang" feat. Eric Church - First song on the CD and it sets the mood for the whole album! It lets the world know everything that should be expected when headed out in the country. Includes fishing, fried chicken, cornbread, and everything else country! This song acts as a country anthem and any true country hick can relate to it.
"Work It Out" feat. Luke Bryan - The perfect combination of country and rap! Luke Bryan definitely steals the show with his vocals, but that is why I find this song to be a stand out track on the CD! Tells how the man just doesn't have time to do all of his chores after a long day at work, but he is willing to Work it Out after the kids go to bed! I'm sure this explains how many men in relationships feel.
"Overworked & Underpaid" feat. Charlie Daniels - The anthem for the working class! Doesn't everyone feel like they are overworked and underpaid? The collaboration between Colt and Charlie Daniels definitely put what many feel into a song! This is just an overall great song with great lyrics behind it!
Be sure to pick up the CD or head over to iTunes and give the CD a listen. You have to go in with an open mind and I think you with be satisfied with the outcome! There definitely isn't another CD like this right now! I give Colt a lot of credit for bringing a whole new vibe to country music.
