Father's Day is fast approaching and the topic of what to get Dad for Father's Day can be a tough one. Dads are just over-sized boys. They like their toys. But not all of them have the same interests. Toys can be cheap or they can be expensive. With the economy strapping budgets, finding dad something he will like on a budget can be even more difficult. Because everyone may not be constrained by the same budget issues, a few more pricey options will be considered as well.
Does dad like to read? Are his tastes toward the more conservative end of the spectrum? If they are, I can steer you clear of some mediocre conservative books while highlighting some I enjoyed more. Books can be purchased cheaply but can be expensive to re-ship. Ordering on-line will allow you to ship the book directly to Dad, or you can send him a gift card to his favorite bookstore with your recommendation of what he should buy.
If dad is into electronics, there are some inexpensive choices or ones that will require an investment. But maybe dad is worth a two hundred dollar Blu-Ray. At the high end of electronics, I would suggest a Samsung BDP3600 Blu-Ray Player - For under two hundred dollars, this Blu-Ray player comes equipped with a wi-fi dongle (which normally run about eighty dollars if purchased alone). This player boasts blazing speeds and on-screen access to Blockbuster, Netflix, Pandora and YouTube. A big thumbs up! Moving into a more afforcable option is the iPod Shuffle - The Apple iPod Shuffle is an extremely small, lightweight MP3 player that is perfect for active lifestyles. The small unit has a strong clip to securely fasten your music during physical activity. The units hold between 500 and 1000 songs depending which model you purchase. They retail starting in the fifty dollar range. In that same price range, maybe you can help dad set up his wireless network with a Sprint EX720 Wireless Modem - It is the gift that keeps on giving. A decent wireless card that will set you back about sixty dollars per month. To record family memories without shelling out a lot of money, consider the Polaroid i1035 Digital Camera - An inexpensive 10 Megapixel resolution for photographers who simply want to record events and are not hard corps hobbyists. For a much cheaper option, maybe something as simple as a wireless mouse, like the Dell JR 287 Optical Mouse - An inexpensive light weight optical mouse that works great. If dad has a laptop, you may want to help him protect it with a Targus Stow and Go Chill Matfor around twenty dollars.
As a dad myself, I have gotten excellent fragrances and cheap toilet water over the years. Steer clear of the Aspen type fragrances...nobody wants to smell like a Christmas tree. How about Escada Sentiment - A warm, spicy, slightly woody fragrance that retails in the mid-twenty dollar range. Or, Versace Pour Homme - A crisp clean fragrance with great staying power. My current favorite...retailing around forty dollars. Escada - One of my excellent fragrance staples that I like to keep on hand. Issey Miyake - Another excellent clean lined fragrance I like to have on hand. Nautica Voyage is a less expensive alternative and has a light clean scent.
If dad is a movie buff, you can choose from a wide variety of decent videos for around five dollars. Or, you can buy him a year subscription to Netflix which runs around ten dollars per month. That way, he can rent as many videos as he wants during the year or watch them over the internet with his wi-fi Blu-Ray player (if he owns one). I could recommend a whole slew of movies, as I have written hundreds of movie reviews...but your best bet is to go to your local big box store and sort through the five dollar bin. There are tons of great titles hidden among the duds in those bins.
Happy hunting. And to all the dads out there...Happy Father's Day!
Father's Day is a wonderful day for myself and everyone else to thank all of the men in our lives who gave us guidance, encouragement, support, and love over the years. Some of us are lucky enough to still have our fathers while others have either lost their dads to death or never knew their biological father. In many cases, it's another man who stepped in and filled the roll of father. Thank each and every father you know. They deserve a little respect today.
Father's Day is a day honoring fathers and celebrating fatherhood, paternal bonds, and the influence of fathers in society. It is celebrated on the third Sunday of June in 52 of the world's countries and on other days elsewhere. It complements Mother's Day, the celebration honoring mothers.
