A fun application for music listening.

If you're a free app junkie, then you'll probably enjoy the new FlyCast application that's now available for download for either your iPhone or Blackberry.

FlyCast provides over a thousand channels of music to listen to, and if you have a 3G connection, then music comes out sounding pretty clear.  You can browse channels by genre, decade, or city. There are channels about everything from classical jazz, 90's rock, and hip-hop to talk radio, traffic reports, and sports game coverage.

I've used the application for about a week now, and also find myself listening to it now in my car.  You can favorite channels, and quickly see what you've marked as favorite when choosing a new channel to listen to.  FlyCast seems relatively new, and since I've used it - the interface and options have changed about two or three times, but each time - things get better.

The two only bad things are that at times, you'll find difficulty in connecting to a channel if you're not on a 3G connection.  Music becomes chopped in pieces, and the word streaming starts turning into a drop of music every 5 or 10 seconds.  The other thing is that since it's a free app, there IS some advertising on the channels, but they are never as long as what you hear on FM radio, maybe only 2 to 3 commercials before another string of songs. This isn't too bad, and considering that the channels all seem to be independent - you're not getting stuck with mainstream hits all day, you actually hear some new music you would have never come across.

Great free application to try out.
