I love this book because I learned about Mohandas Gandhi. I am inspired to approach my problems in life in a less aggressive way because of his life. I must confess that I knew nothing about how Gandhi's 100 mile salt march led to India's independence from Great Britain. I did not know that salt and cloth were taxable items that made Indian people poor and British people rich. I learned that he also supported voting rights for the most socially out cast people by going on a food fast. I am simply inspired by the courage of Mohandas Gandhi. I love all the historical aspects of this book. It is rare for me to learn something from a children's book.
This book is beautifully illustrated by an artist named Thomas Gonzalez. My favorite illustration is one of Gandhi bathing in the Arabian Sea in the morning. The colors of the sea and water is so vivid. I also love the picture of Gandhi waving behind a background of clouds. This illustration symbolizes Gandhi's warmth and compassion. The writing in this book is easy for readers to understand. I learned a little bit about Gandhi's achievements. This book also makes me think about his legacy too. This book is aimed for kids. Kids under ten will love the pictures in the book. Adults will love the pictures and the words in the book.
