I have always been a huge fan of Topographical maps. Before I found this device I used to make constant trips to REI to pickup a topo maps for the area I would be hiking or climbing in, park maps and book maps just never met the need. I like to know contours and elevation of the terrain.

To preface this review, before I purchased this product I did much of my research online using various sources, I also tested several other hand held GPS devices before making the purchase.

My primary objective, reduce my dependency on paper maps and purchase a device that would meet my map needs. The purchase was a success, with a few caveats.

What this model lacks:
Battery Life, you need to get the NiMH batteries. 2AA batteries run out way too fast and limits the use of the trip computer for longer trips.
The UI, unfortunately the iphone reset the bar for how I would expect this device to behave. Overall the UI is not that bad the rocker wheel makes it easy to get to and from various functions quickly. I still find myself wanting a touch screen.

The Good:
Great Maps: Topo and 3d views are very good and very useful
Reception: No problems with reception, picks up the signal very quickly
Trip Computer: A fun feature that calculates distance covered, time, rest time, elevation
UI: Short learning curve to figure it all out.

To be honest I have not yet utilized the device to it's full extent based on how my primary use. As I use it more I will continue to evaluate and report back.
