I've never read a self-help dating book before so when I had the opportunity to read THE GEEK'S GUIDE TO DATING, I wasn't sure what to think. As far as what I know about self-help dating books, THE GEEK'S GUIDE TO DATING isn't anything unusual. It does skew away from controversial dating philosophies, e.g. there are no seduction method tips here. In terms of advice, things seem pretty general. What makes THE GEEK'S GUIDE TO DATING different from other similar books are all of the pop culture references. Everything from STAR TREK to GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY to FINAL FANTASY are referenced. You have to be a major geek in several areas or a pop culture writer to get all of the references from the different comic books, movies, tv shows, and video games. These references aren't just made hodge-podge and actually make sense in the context of THE GEEK'S GUIDE TO DATING. As a bonus, there are the 8-bit illustrations liberally sprinkled throughout the book that accompany the text. These illustrations and the overall format of the book (it's kind of designed like a classic arcade game user guide) make the book a worthwhile look for any self-described geek, even if it's solely for amusement purposes. Overall, you probably won't gain any insight into women or learn many dating tips, but THE GEEK'S GUIDE TO DATING is still an amusing read for any self-described geek.
