I hate to stereotype, but sometimes I must. In the days where finding music at the click of a mouse could not be any easier, any music savvy person must admit that each brand has it's own predictable and trite set of lyrics. I am tired of hearing rock and roller's sing about women, rappers rap about money and women, and country music singers whine about losing their money and their women. Debussy and his Clair De lune expressed worlds of emotion without a single lyric. Enter post rock.
This brand of rock and roll is arguably as complex as classical music, but with modern guitar, drums, and even electronics such as the key board. Post rock also does not have lyrics, which puts the listener in the drivers seat, allowing one to interpret the music as they please. Bands like God is an Astronaut, The Dirty Three, and Collapse under the Empire are some of my favorite post rock bands. If you ever find yourself falling into the tired and unimaginative state that mainstream music can put you in, give post rock a try. You will be glad you did.
