This Gave Me A Reason To Return To Liberty City

This is an amazing thing to have happened. The downloadable episodes for GTA IV made available for the PS3, and not only is their availability an amazing thing, the fact that this story is better than the Niko adventures just makes me feel miles better. When I completed the original GTA IV story, I ended up feeling let down and empty inside as, although the graphics, city and some of the missions were stunning to say the least, but when I finished the story I just felt like I didn't have as much fun playing this game than I did with say GTA: San Andreas for instance. I think Rockstar (R*) may have realised their mistake in trying to make the Niko story as real and down to earth as possible was a mistake as the reason you play video games is to escape the drudgery of real life. I didn't like the Niko character as he appeared dull and relatively shallow contrary to what I think R* may have been trying to achieve.

So with the DLC they get the opportunity to add on to the Grand Theft Auto version of New York city and make it more interesting and animated. This is the first DLC episode I have played and I loved every minute of both the story and the new atmosphere the game created. So the story focuses around Luis Lopez a young and reformed gangster who's not long out of prison. Although he still takes part in the criminal underworld, he's a man that became used to keeping his head down, until he met some of the crazier characters of this episode. As part of Luis' life you have to help manage one of Gay Tony's wonderful clubs and just run the odd errand for Liberty City's most dangerous men, you know the usual stuff, steal tanks, jump off buildings etc. It's all in a days work,

I loved this game. I felt like it was a refreshing return to the craziness of what the GTA universe should actually be. The characters were as outlandish and insane as you could possibly make them and were voiced by some very talented people, most notably the character Yusuf Amir voiced by Iranian/British comedian Omid Djalili. I really enjoyed the story, it felt like R* had totally abandoned their philosophy of total realism and grounded story in favour of a more exaggerated and eccentric feel. The introduction of the new vehicles such as the Buzzard helicopter and the APC tank along with the return of parachutes to the GTA world presented and entirely new and exciting experience that cannot and did not fail.

An excellent step up from the original story and hopefully, for the next GTA they will retain this eccentric change in philosophy to deliver a more fun initial game.

This game is FABULOUS!!
Grand Theft Auto IV had a BIG and involved city full of drug dealers, double crosses, broken hearts and broken dreams.  It was engrossing but damn if the dingy tone and hard work led to little payoff sometimes for all the long and hard missions you suffer through.  Still, I loved the city and I could go into corners of the city and get a feel for what went on like with Hove Beach and it's downtown feel of diners, bars and waterfront, the big city world of Algonquin and the drug and …

Colorful and more upbeat return to Liberty City with you playing the bodyguard to LC's Night Club leader. It's more of the same from Grand Theft Auto IV, only better.
