Cutting Cards and Chopping Heads in the Name of Fun

Guillotine is a card game based on the French Revolution in which nobles, of varying point values, line up for the guillotine. Players collect the noble at the front of the line on their turn, but first they can play action cards to mess with the lineup and their competitors. The goal is to get the most points by collecting high-scoring nobles.

This game is surprisingly fun and unpredictable. Because the action cards can change the game so much, it doesn't get boring -- even after you play repeatedly.

It's a game with a fun balance of strategy and luck, a choose your own adventure of cards.

It requires a lot of reading and thinking because the rules are mostly on the cards themselves. What can you do? You can do what the cards in your hand and on the table say you can.

This is not a great game for young kids, but I think junior high and up could really get into it. I've only played with people over 30, and we always have a great time.

If you're into video games, just keep this on hand for when the power goes out. Sure, you can't blow aliens to bits, but there's still an executioner and heads will roll.
