The newest wave sweeping the nation is the dry soda craze. These are lightly-sweetened, naturally flavored carbonated drinks infused with herbs and fruit and taste like a cross between sparkled water and classic soda. All are light on sugar with a distinct flavor. GuS (Grown up soda) is a little heavier in the sugar department but still manages the sweet-tart balance of a fine wine. Flavors like lemon, lime, grapefruit, and pomegranate fell on the tangy side...while grape, cranberry, orange, and ale fall on the sweet side. All are balanced well with a hint of pulp...making them refreshing and the lightly bubbled concoctions are reminisce of a finely-crafted coctail.
Alas, not all the news can be good. GuS (Grown up soda) does have a downside...compared to the other producers of similar drinks, GuS's flavors fall short and are a bit on the basic side. My personal favorites were dry Cranberry and dry lemon...these were lightly flavored and truly dry and would make a great substitute for an evening wine. Gus has become a stable in my house and the artificial ingredients and corn syrup has gone the way of the VCR. You'll discover that they are distinctive sodas made with real juice and real flavor extracts, in a variety of flavors: Dry Pomegranate, Dry Crimson Grape, Dry Meyer Lemon, Star Ruby Grapefruit, Extra Dry Ginger Ale, Dry Cranberry Lime, Dry Cola, and Dry Valencia Orange...all are natural with no caffeine and lightly sweetened with cane sugar.
