I love when I learn something new from a book. I had no knowledge of astronomy before reading How Big Is Our Universe? I know a few basic things about our universe now. Dr. Anwar Hamdi fills a lot of information in such a short book. Here are some fascinating facts I found. There are 6.8 billion people on earth. There are 49,000 countries on earth. These are just two things that I find absolutely fascinating. I did not know that Mars contains the tallest volcano and the deepest valley in the solar system. The volcano on Mars is higher than Mount Everest. I did not know that Jupiter is a much larger planet than Earth. Handi discusses the words the words fusion and fission, but he does not explain what these words mean. He discusses the difference of the impact of the atomic and hydrogen bomb. This is very interesting to read. I will educate myself about this scientific terms. I will be more well informed and well rounded when I learn more. This is the kind of book that forces me sharpen my skills in geometry and measurement. The sun is not the brightest star in the universe. There are stars with names like Eta Carinae and Betelgeuse that shine brighter than the sun. Hamdi discusses the pyramids in Egypt. I did not know the heights of these structures. I did not know the pyramids had names. Geography is an interesting subject. There are several references to foreign places in the book like Dubai and Lebanon. I want to look at a map to see where exactly these countries are in promixity to each other. I did learn how to calculate how much I would weigh on the moon, but this book motivates me to learn more about every thing.
How Big Is Our Universe-Mathematical Analogies by Dr. Anwar Hamdi is a considerably well-researched book on the proportionalities which exist in our Solar System in relation to the Earth. There are fascinating facts in the presentation generally not well known by the general public. For instance, on Venus a day is longer than an earth year. The largest volcano in our solar system is believed … more
