I AM KERMIT THE FROG is a children's book that loosely follows the plots of both THE MUPPET MOVIE and THE MUPPETS. The story begins with Kermit the Frog sitting on a log playing his banjo. He decides to go to Hollywood and along the way is joined by all kinds of characters, including Fozzie the Bear and Miss Piggy. They get to Hollywood and become famous and Kermit leads them in movies, tv, and even a Broadway show. But then Kermit and Piggy get in a fight and the gang breaks up and goes their separate ways. Years later a Muppet named Walter and his brother Gary discover that the Muppet Theatre is going to be torn down. They visit Kermit and tell him what's going to happen and Kermit agrees to try to get the gang together again to save the theatre.
Even though, I AM KERMIT THE FROG is loosely based upon THE MUPPET MOVIE and THE MUPPETS, it differs in several places. For instance, Kermit's mansion doesn't look at all decrepit in this book. The ending is also different and the character of Mary from THE MUPPETS has completely been eliminated.
I don't know anything about Passport to Reading levels, but this is a Level 3 Passport to Reading book. There are 1034 words in the books, it is a K level on the guided reading level scale, and there are 116 dolch sight words. Basically, it's a book aimed at students between 1st-3rd grade. It's a nice little book and makes a good gift for a young Muppet fan or as a way to introduce a young child to the Muppets.
