Good Clean Humor

  • Feb 13, 2005
Some very funny skits on this CD. Rudy and his magic sneakers offer quite a chuckle. Man could that dude could stop on a dime.

The giant skit is another side splitter. Boy did Bill and his brother Rudy rob his dad blind. Was his mom in on it? Listen to the CD.

The Rhinoceros and Oops stand out as well. TV Football almost repeats a routine from the Why Is There Air recording. However the emphasis is distinguishable.

Bill Cosby is so refreshing in the world of crude humor. He uses his voice to the nth degree to bring out all the feelings of the many characters from his stories. And that is true comedy my friends.

About this topic

Here's a slice of Cosby before he became a major television star. At this point in time, the main appeal ofI Started Out as a Childis its innocence. Recorded live at a Chicago club in 1964, the disc is a product of a now-quaint American scene, as yet untouched by the radical social changes that were just around the corner. Cosby pulls in the listener by introducing his only mildly humorous stories in a warm, intimate tone. Then he switches to using a variety of animated voices and vocal sound effects to get laughs from a responsive audience. If you want to enjoy the gentle ambiance and warmth of another time, this CD is for you. However, Cosby's at-times charming, skilled performance isn't enough to make this dated material funny.--Fred Cisterna
