Have you ever seen a movie so bad, it was all you could think about? Pro surfer Shane Dorian and a host of other surf pros apparently thought it would be a good idea to make a surf video, but with a plot. This might not have been a bad idea if they had hired actors to play their characters and edited themselves in for the surfing sequences. Unfortunately, they didn’t. The movie has a few nice bits of surfing, but they are completely overwhelmed by the lack of acting talent. This movie makes Miley Cyrus look like a talented and versatile actress.
DICSCLAIMER or warning actually: I did not watch this movie the whole way through. By about 45 minutes in, I realized I had better ways to spend my time. Basically, the plot is something about a surfer training to surf a certain wave, but he and his friends get thrown in prison in Africa, where they promptly escape in a seaplane, in wetsuits that have skeletons on them of course. By the time they make it to Hawaii and actually surf the wave they set out for, one surfer has some sort of mental break down and bails on a huge wave. We are then treated to a 30 second sequence of his board flying through the air, due to the size of the wave and gravity of the situation or something. I wouldn’t recommend anyone sit through even 10 minutes of this movie, unless terrible acting is your thing. Ugh.
