Allen Vaysberg writes inspirational poems that make me feel good.

  • Jul 15, 2013
I enjoy the poetry of Allen Vaysberg. I am used to reading poems with more anguish, but I found this collection of poems to be insightful. My favorite poem is entitled "The answer about changing my name". I never thought changing my name, so I think that is why this poem stands for me. His first name in Russian is Kostik. I learned that the definition of this name in English means faithful or steadfast. He emphasizes that the name change is not as important as living a life of sincerity. This short poem is a gem. He writes about the sacrifices his parents made to give him a better life in the poem "14 Years Ago Today". His father gave up a successful career as an engineer in Russia. His mother struggled to learn the English language and customs. This is a poem of gratitude to his parents. I like the message of this poem very much. My other favorite poem is entitled "Igor's Birthday". This poem is a reminder that two people with different interests can still be friends. I have a friend who reads completely different books than I do. My friend also likes to eat strange foods like tofu with ranch dressing. I think this food combination is revolting, but he is still one of my best friends. This poem is about respecting individual differences. I think that is always a great message for a poem to communicate. "Because I Am A Poet" is an excellent poem about how Allen explored different career choices like business and law as a young person. Studying law and business brought Allen back to writing. He expresses a strong desire to write and express himself creatively. I have a similar passion for writing poetry. Vaysberg inspires me to continue to write about my own experiences. Vaysberg gives good advice for married couples who are trying to grow together. I am not married yet, but I agree that the key to a good marriage is supporting my future wife in reaching her goals. is important. I learned from this poem that marriage is a sacrifice. I hope to experience the joy and pain of marriage some day. "Mid Winter Night's Dream" is a poem about describing how to make Shakespeare more appealing to kids. The actors in this play speak in modern English. They wear tuxedos and other fashionable clothing. I don't know if this kind of theater would appeal to the kids I know, but this poem is still fun to read. I enjoy reading how he expresses himself.
