For years, I've been searching boutiques high and low for what I considered to be the perfect dress. My ideal dress would be cute, light weight, demure, not too extravagant, and can be worn anytime of the day for almost any occasion. I didn't realize this at the time, but it turns out that what I was looking for was actually a jersey knit dress. It took me forever to find, so when I found a couple at Forever 21 at few years ago, I was over the moon. ...And now? Apparently, they're all the rage, and a ton of designers have been incorporating jersey knits into their lines, and I couldn't be happier. More jersey knit dresses for me! :D
Reasons why I love jersey knit dresses:
They're perfect for any occasion. I can wear a cardigan over it with some ballet flats and wear it to work. I can wear a bikini underneath paired with flip flops and wear it to the beach. Or, I could dress it up with a pair of heels and wear it out for a night on the town. They can definitely be dressed up and dressed down with variations on hair style, accessories, and shoes.
They're easy to put on. The fabric is very soft and stretchable. There's no need for assistance with zipping, and putting on, or taking off, because there are rarely ever zippers involved, and who gets stuck in a super stretchy dress? Well, I guess it could happen if someone wore the wrong size, but... nevermind :P There might be the occasional button or two, but I think we handle that.
They're very flattering on the body. Most jersey knit dresses that I've seen have never been extremely tight, except a bit around the chest area usually. Other than that, they're very flowy and kind of just fall and drape onto the body.
They're lightweight. Yes, a dress that isn't heavy in the shopping bag, and wouldn't weigh you down when you wear it!
They don't need ironing. Yup, go ahead, just mash it up into a ball and put it into your closet, or stuff it in your glove compartment in case it gets super hot on the road (I keep many more odd, practical things in my glove compartment!). It'll still look fabulous when you put it on because the jersey knit fabric is practically wrinkle-proof!
They're super compact. I mean, it's just a piece of very, very soft, flexible fabric. Extremely easy to fold and pack away, especially since they don't need any ironing. To save space in my closet, I don't even hang my jersey knit dresses; I just fold them and put them in a stack.
They're widely available and not too expensive.Forever 21 actually has a ton of jersey knit dress selections on their Fabulous Finds line, with each dress being $9-$15. Yes, that's pretty fabulous! They also have many more selections in their regular line which I don't mind paying a few more bucks for. I've also gotten a few from Target that were between $18-$30. Lauren Conrad actually has a whole line dedicated to jersey knit dresses, and I was lucky enough to snag a few on sale at Hautelook.com. They're usually $150 and up. BCBG Max Azria has has many nice jersey knit dresses, but I've yet to own one. They're pricey, but their designs are worth checking out.
And for all those reasons above, they're also great to travel with and perfect for vacations!
The only thing that I can say that I don't like about jersey knit dresses is that little linty bumps form on the fabric when washed in the washing machine, so dry cleaning would be most appropriate for these dresses. Other than that, these jersey knit dresses are fabulous! :)
