BY Jason Standart

If a pictures worth a thousand words

Then what you they say when you look at me?

Do you see a proud Pinoy

Or just an Asian gay boy

Growing up alone, confused, not sure of who I am

Why don’t I look at girls but instead at that man

I’m much more than a stereotype

This is who I was born to be

But why is gay all that anyone can see

You make jokes I’m a woman

And I laugh and go with it

Even though I am bothered

I’d rather stay quiet.

Laughter and a smile that’s how you picture me

Cuz the sadness inside I’ll let nobody see

Stay strong for my family, I must be that glue

Sacrificing me for their happiness

That’s what I choose to do.

They are my family, my world, and my life

I take care of my sisters

Cuz I‘ll never have a wife.

I hate my job at the Spag Factory

I only stay sane because of our Mantary

They say I can’t say “NO”

This is something I must learn to do

To start living my life for me

And not how you want me to.

What is my passion? What is my desire?

I have no clue, I just want to retire.

But I must stay strong, don’t take the easy way out

I’m slowly learning who I am and what I’m all about

Life is a journey, no one said that it wouldn’t be hard.

Sometimes you get hurt like a broken glass shard.

Obstacles and barriers I’ve gone through and overcame

I’ve had a lot of love lose, but also a lot of love gain

I have people who love an except me for who I am,

That’s all I can ask for

Who knew opening that closet could open another door.

The door to my soul, the key to my spirit

The ability to love, and the pain that goes with it

The completion of me may take a little more time

But I know I’m on the path to a life that’s all mine.

There is still more of my life, stories about me

But its stuff I’m not yet ready for the world to see.

But trust me one day I’ll let my soul free

To fly with no limits

To soar with not worries

But until that day, these are just a few of Jonathans’ stories.
