The Jordan III is basically the Jordan which gave the public the chance to watch him grow with NIke. After the I and II, MJ was unhappy with NIke and was seriously contemplating leaving. If this would have happened the NIke we know today would not exist. One man changed the fortune of both MJ and NIke, Tinker Hatfield. Jordan was upset with Nike after the release of the II which didn't have the best welcoming due to the high price and the semi-plain look. By working closely with MJ and listening to his wants and desires, Tinker designed this classic shoe. This was an unheard of concept until then. The designers would just design the shoe and the player would wear it no questions asked. By asking for the MJ's thoughts and suggestions, Tinker was able to deliver a shoe that was made individually for MJ. Instead of the high tops he was wearing before, Mj opted for a 3/4 cut shoe. Lighter and more adapted to his cutting and slashing game not only was this shoe more comfortable, but also more fashionable. Not to mention the iconic elephant print, something that had never been seen before on a sneaker. This shoe was not only a turning point for Nike, but also for the sneaker community. If Tinker would not have come along MJ would have left Nike to go with designers Peter Moore and Bruce Kilgore of his first two shoes who had started their own company. If you think the name Kilgore sounds familiar, he designed the most popular shoe of all time, the Air Force 1. Tinker went on to design every shoe from III to XV as well as the XX and XXIII.
