If you need to do a move in Los Angeles area, I recommend you check this company out. This is a Korean operated company, so there might be slight language barrier, but you can work it out.
We moved from 2 bedroom 2 bath apartment to a condo. Our apartment was 2 level and our new condo is 3 level. So there are lots of stairs.
We got 3 movers. The movers came 7 minutes late, but that's understandable in L.A. traffic. Even though I said it was a 2 bedroom apartment, they brought a 24' truck without any extra charge. I had pretty much everything boxed up, except for the furnitures and some minor random stuff. The movers boxed up the rest of the random stuff and wrapped everything in saran wrap as protection. The furnitures also nicely wrapped with card boards and blankets. We had so much stuff that we actually filled the 24' truck, which is recommended for 3-4 bedroom. Besides the stuff in the apartment, we also had some more boxes in the storage in the garage and 3 bikes.
It took 6.5 hours including a short lunch break. The driving time was very short since we moved 3 blocks down. Considering all the steps we have at the condo, I was very happy with the total time. To get to the kitchen, there is a fairly narrow stairways that also u-turns. The movers managed to get our side-by-side refrigerator without any scratch to the refrigerator nor the wood floor. I was biting my nails, but these guys were strong and knew how to maneuver the beast.
Because we had so many stairs and they didn't want to scratch the wood, the movers carried the boxes on their backs, instead of using the dolley. They stacked up 2-4 boxes, ties them together and carry them on their back.
The casualty from this move was one broken glass and a cracked margarita pitcher. Not bad, I think.
In comparison, the last move took 3 men 8.5 hours and costed us $200 more. We were moving from 1 bedroom loft, with elevators, and at least 1/3 less of the stuff. Kang Nam movers did an excellent job on this move. I would use them again if we have to move again. Oh but please no more moving.
