Don't Even Bother!

I'm a plain oatmeal fan.  I love plain oatmeal.  I don't care for Maple and Brown Sugar... or Apple Cinnamon... or Banana.  I just like Plain Oatmeal.

But I also LOVE vanilla.  Anything vanilla, I will devour.

I was grocery shopping a few days ago and I remembered that I'm out of my favorite Quaker Plain Oatmeal.  I grab a new box and push my cart.   Then I see it in the corner of my eye:  Kashi Go Lean Truly Vanilla Oatmeal.

Hmm... Go Lean?  Sure... but why is there 40 more calories per serving?
Hmm... Vanilla?  Sure that sounds awesome!!!

Vanilla > 40 more calories, so I went with it.

Opening the packets, you can see the vanilla powder it comes with.  Not really eye appealling, but I guess I'll just wait it out.  I mixed in my soy milk and prepped the microwave.

After 2 minutes in the 'wave, the solution was still a bit watery.. but I might've put too much milk to compensate for the powder.  It smelled a bit too "bleh".  Didn't even smell like oatmeal... or vanilla.

I take my first bite.  I nearly gag.  It doesn't even taste like oatmeal.. but I kinda can taste the vanilla.  But not the kind of vanilla I was hoping for... it more like a day old melted vanilla ice cream.  Gross.

Never again.

I agree. I love many Kashi products, but can't eat the oatmeal. I've only tried the Maple and the Apple Cinnamon, and while they looked, smelled, and even tasted alright, they always turned orange for some reason, and I couldn't eat it because of that. I tried more than one box, and it happened every time. I don't know if one of the ingredients they add is causing it or what, but it's gross. Thanks for the review. I won't try this flavor either.

I once tried one of their granola bars, but I found it to be oat-y and without flavor. The surprising thing was that it had more sugar and calories than Nature Valley's Oat's n Honey, one of my favorite bars.

Hmm... let's see.    I'm a 20-something living in Los Angeles, CA. I was born and raised here, with the exception of a 3 year stint in the Philippines. This "long" vacation helped … more
