What is hindering your loved ones from putting their faith in God?

Something worse than the so-called age-gap can make the relationship between parents and children difficult, and that is none other than what I like to call the “faith-gap.” In the old times, it was customary for children to be raised in the faith of their parents; but not so today. Nowadays, thanks to scientific advances, “new” standards of morality, etc. people are free to choose their own faith. The differences in faith within a family however can add to the already complex problems and situations they are dealing with.

This is a heartwarming, inspirational book that I don’t hesitate to recommend to Christians everywhere who struggle daily in their prayers for a member of their family to come to faith in Christ.

“Letters from a Skeptic” is a book that deals with the questions a skeptical father has with regards to the Christian faith. This is not really a book that is divided into chapters but rather divided according to correspondences between Dr. Gregory A. Boyd and his father Edward K. Boyd.

Each correspondence is “titled” according to the questions that Dr. Boyd’s father asks of his son to explain. Questions like:

“Why has Christianity done so much harm?”

“Why is the world so full of suffering?”

To more questions of a personal nature for Dr. Boyd and his father like:

“Why didn’t God spare your mother?”

This book is down-right honest to its core as Dr. Boyd unflinchingly tries to explain his faith to his father. Although the language has been “cleaned” to make the dialogue between father and son fit for publication, you won’t fail to feel the anguish and the sincerity in their tones as they try to resolve the questions that seem to separate the two.

Though I do not agree completely with Dr. Boyd’s theology, this is still a must-read and an encouragement to all Christians out there that we should not give up in trying to reach our loved ones for Christ. I would also recommend this to those who themselves are Christians but are somehow having doubts about their faith.
