I'm not too big on spending lots of money for jeans, especially when that amount gets into ridiculous figures that I never understand how people can pay for such a thing. At the same time, I hate it when you buy a pair of jeans because they were cheap and on sale, and then end up not fitting right later on. It's the worst feeling to be stuck with pants that drag and tear at the bottom, or fade after a couple of washes. A while ago, I found a pair that entertained both of my aspects of what I looked for in jeans. The Levis 514.
The Levis 514 were jeans that were pretty much thrown to the side in department stores. They were never folded nicely against the brand's designated wall at Macy's, and they were always found on the cheap plastic hangars that were on the sale racks and were shipped heavily to the Levi's outlets all over. A blessing in disguise, because that's exactly how I found these jeans on a holiday weekend a couple of years ago.
These jeans give a nice look to any outfit, as they aren't baggy at all, yet provide enough material to keep you from looking like you got your jeans from the ladies' department. The length of the jeans are dead on straight, so if you are true to your size, your jeans will never drag, and rest right above your shoes and sneakers. This works quite well especially if you have low top shoes like Chucks or Vans that have nothing for jeans to catch and rest on.
In terms of price, I have never paid over $40 for a pair of these Levis, and they are usually found in more and more washes, as I've noticed that slowly - they are making it to the big and bad Levi wall. I haven't purchased another type of jeans since I found the Levis 514.
The only negative thing that I can say about these jeans is the slight fall in durability. If you're the kind of person who wears jeans everyday, you might want to buy extra pairs, or designate one pair strictly for work/everyday use. My past jeans have eventually stretched and tore, probably after 1.5-2 years after I bought them. But considering how cheap they are, and how comfortable I fit in them, I'm still very satisfied and am happy to continue buying them.
