The darkest side of humanity - A must see.

This is one of the most eye opening and profound experiences I have see in a movie.

It tells the story of Lilya, a Eastern European girl left to fend for herself in a cruel world.

After a series of unfortunate by realistic events she is forced into sex slavery and sold off to a Western European country.

The telling of the story is low key and understated which adds to the effect and you feel helpless in the eyes of the horror she must endure.

It is an experience that will stay with you and after viewing I gave my copy away, since I don't have the will to see it again.

Is this a foreign film in subtitles? Sounds like an important story to tell and very heart wrenching. Thanks for sharing your experience.

It is made in Sweden but is also in Russian. I go with subtitles, besides the lead actress only speaks Russian. But really for the second half you don't need to understand what is spoken. As for heart wrenching, it is enough to see it once. Very few would have the stomach for a rerun. The French Movie Irreversible also come to mind but a rape is central to the story. I watched that with a few follow police officers and everyone was silent for about 20 minutes after that scene. Both movies are very good. And very hard.
