Lincoln is my favorite film of 2012.  It shows the determination of an American president to pass the thirteenth amendment.  This is the amendment that outlaws slavery.  Steven Spielberg makes me feel the drama and significance that voting for an amendment can have  This film also shows many different facets of the personality of Abraham Lincoln.  Daniel Day Lewis gives a superb portrayal of the our sixteenth president.  Lincoln was a man who had few years of formal education, but he possessed great knowledge.  In one of my favorite scenes, he talks about one of Euclid's geometric axioms to demonstrate his belief in equality.  Lincoln is also portrayal as a grieving father who has lost his young son.  He is also a loving father who allows his son Robert to make his own decisions in life.  Lincoln was also a man who had compassion for anyone no matter what  race they belonged to.  There are excellent supporting performances in the movie.  Tommy Lee Jones who plays the Chairman of The Ways and Means Committee.  He is a proponent of the 13th amendment .He  works for thirty years to see it come to fruition.  There is another excellent performance by David Straithairn.   He is known mostly for his work in the Bourne action films.  He plays secretary of state William Seward.  He fears that passage of the 13th amendment will lead to strife and problems among the states in the Union.  Sally Field gives her best performance in years as first lady Mary Lincoln. I also enjoyed the fiddle music provided by composer John Williams.

The Road to Human Dignity
President Abraham Lincoln is perhaps one of the most loved, the most admired president in history. Put that together with director Steven Spielberg impressive resume, Daniel-Day Lewis in the title role supported by a stellar cast headed by Sally Field and Tommy Lee Jones, 2012’s “Lincoln” would obviously be a winner. Well, the film is indeed all that may have been promised and more. The timing of the film’s release was set to coincide with the 150th anniversary of the Emanticipation …

This movie had a lot of good individual parts: a really good cast, a great director, and a National icon.  However, in sum this movie didn't live up to what it could be.  The story focuses on the end of the Civil War and Lincoln's push to get the 13th Ammendment through the House of Representatives.  Lincoln talks about how he used the powers granted to him because of the war, to pass the Emancipation Proclamation, freeing the slaves.  He gives a difficut explanation …

A film named "Lincoln" spreads specific expectations. The audience needs to be in touch with the man's life, needs to understand him and to get behind his motivations and wishes. When the only thing you get is a film dedicated to one single important event from this man's life, then at least the audience would want a better understanding of why this person pursued this dream of his. When you don't even get a clear picture of that, then my friend, the …

Politics can be dull
The movie examines Abraham Lincoln's (Daniel Day-Lewis) efforts to pass the 13th Amendment in the last few months of his life. It is a detailed account of his strategy and the negotiations of the members of his cabinet, especially his Secretary of State, William Seward (David Strathairn).      The story deals with the minute details involved in making slavery illegal; conversations between pompous politicians are endless and dry and I found it boring. I would have preferred …
