A Long Beach has the same alcohol as a Long Island but instead of cola and sweet & sour, the base is cranberry juice. This makes for a lighter, fruity taste that cuts the taste of the alcohol and makes it very drinkable. Perhaps too drinkable. Long Beaches can sneak up on you. They taste wonderful and so it's easy to forget the old rule about not mixing alcohols. All by herself, Long Beach has vodka, rum. tequila, gin and triple sec. Yeah. It's some serious business.
That said, it's my go-to drink for a night out, especially on a budget. One or two and you're pretty set for the night. Luckily, I'm blessed with the ability to drink whatever I want and not get sick. If you are not so blessed, beware.
